What is Anti-Mullerian hormone test?

The Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) test measures the level of AMH in the blood. AMH is a hormone produced by the granulosa cells of small follicles in the ovaries in women, and by the Sertoli cells of the testes in men. In women, AMH levels reflect the size of the remaining egg supply (ovarian reserve).

This test is primarily used to assess a woman’s ovarian reserve and predict her fertility potential. It is commonly ordered for women undergoing fertility evaluations or IVF (in vitro fertilization) treatment. It is also used to diagnose polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), evaluate early menopause, and in men, to assess testicular function in cases of undescended testes or delayed puberty.
