What is Measles IgG test?

The Measles IgG Antibody test measures the level of IgG antibodies against the Measles virus (Rubeola) in the blood. IgG antibodies are long-lasting antibodies that develop after exposure to the measles virus — either through infection or vaccination — and indicate immunity to measles.

This test is used to determine whether a person is immune to measles, which is particularly important for healthcare workers, pregnant women, students, and individuals in outbreak settings. It is also used to confirm the effectiveness of the measles vaccine (MMR — Measles, Mumps, Rubella), to investigate suspected measles infection, and for epidemiological surveillance. A positive (reactive) IgG result indicates immunity, while a negative result suggests the person may need vaccination.
